The NBVFD was nominated for the OSPRA, (Oil Spill Prevention and Response Act) Award for thier actions during a response to a tug boat that sank in the Nassau Bay Lagoon and was leaking oil, and diesel fuel into the water. During thier presentation they stated the NBVFD had gone way beyond the call of duty for their actions during the tug boat event. From the time the GLO arrived on scene they were impressed by the way the NBVFD had setup the scene using the Incident Command System, and had setup the initial booming of the area.

Other agancies assited the NBVFD during this incident. The Kemah Fire Department, The U.S. Coast Guard, the Texas General Land Office, the City of Nassau Bay, the Nassau Bay Police Department, and the Nassau Bay EMS.
